Was assigned to a Doctor Whyte. Haven't heard much about him really; a psych teacher, not so bad s'long as you don't dick around. Seemed true once I actually got to the class, he's a nice enough person I suppose.**
Saw Aaron at lunch today, he's assigned to the Foreign exchange teacher. Well, sucks to be him. I went of to grab some lunch, came back and found him talking to a couple of... characters. First up's that football player Bryce. Not much to say really, big, imposing, and not much for words I assume. The other one's a bit more of an issue. Nathan Frost, A local who thinks he's top shit, apparently quite friendly with the ladies. Usually people like him get a pretty big ego, but I wasn't going to judge quite so quickly. Well, I wasn't, till he proved his dickishness full fold. Apparently Aaron's friends with both these guys (Nobodies perfect I suppose). He started talking about how we all have the same class, and how he want's us all to hang out at Lake Avalon or something. Yea, tough break Aaron, but I don't think that I'm gonna buddy up with a low brow and a narcissist.
Had Mr. Whyte for my last class. He droned on and on for a bit then actually asked a question I knew, not cause I was payin' attention though. "What's the greek names for love and death?" Eros and Thanatoes. Pop used to quiz me all the time when we were watching a place, and I remembered when he asked me that. Eh, whatever, he didn't call me anyway so it doesn't matter.
Well, driving up to Lake Avalon. I really don't know why; I'm tired, there's school tomorrow, and I'm wasting gas, but whatever, Aaron'll owe me one, which'll make up for my ten or so. Pulled up and spotted the other two standing near the docks, Nathan was bragging about something or another, I wasn't paying him to much mind. Aaron showed up right on time, talked for a bit, then told us to join him on the dock. When we get out there he tells us to stare into the water, more specifically at the moon's reflection. After assuring us he wasn't on drugs I went along with it, and that's when shit got freaky. the longer I stared, the harder it was to break away, I felt a kind of nervousness, like when you know you shouldn't be doin' somethin', and for a second I swore I saw something flit across the water, couldn't tell what though. I heard some noises to the right of me but I couldn't stop staring at the reflection of the moon, which was slowly getting darker, and redder. After a few more seconds I could finally look up, and we were there. It looked like some sort of dead version of the lake; all the trees were burned and destroyed, the ground was ash, the water was some sort of inky black sludge. It was... a little disconcerting. The big guy, Bryce picked up Aaron and started yelling, demanding to know what the hell happened; maybe he's smarter than I thought. Eventually Aaron managed to calm him down. He said he'd found this place five years ago and had been using it ever since, some sort of alternate universe or something. He said we had to see the school, so we loaded up in my car*** and headed out. Still didn't see anything on the way over; no people, birds, living plants, anything to indicate life. all the buildings we passed looked worn and destroyed to some degree or another. eventually we reached the school, Aaron mentioned that there weren't any locks in this world or something as we passed through the open gate. The school appeared almost opposite it had been this morning, dark walls with some sorta liquid (edit: mystery blood that comes from nowhere, according to Aaron apparently) and destroyed, well everything. We headed up to the principals office, and inside was a huge, sealed coffin. Aaron explained how he thought that this is what happened to people if they didn't look into the lake or teleport or whatever. He said that this world was how he got to be who he was; how he earned the grades, got the ladies, all that. I glanced through the office while he was talking and found some letters from the principal to his brother, something about his wife leaving him and how drinking makes the nightmares stop, useful information. Aaron said there was one other thing he had to show us, so we headed out. While we were walking to the car, I pulled Aaron aside and questioned him a bit, this shadow time, or dark hour, or whatever he calls it, sounds like a strong temptation, and I'm not so sure he used it for just studying. I couldn't get anything out of him, so we drove out to Junez mall. The place looked normal, well, normal for this twisted place. Aaron just told us to wait. We sat around with our thumbs in our asses for a minute before it happened. The mall starting stretching and elongating, growing freakishly tall, all sorta wierd images and shapes started forming in the sides of the building, including a huge clock. Aaron said it was called the Tower of Thanatoes. Huh, real comforting name. He explained, in so many words, that he wanted to explore the place. Bryce seemed up to the idea, while the less crazy people voted no. We spent a bit of time chinning about the world, grilling Aaron a bit, before we decided to get outta this creepy world. The trip back was uneventful, I kept my eye out for any more Chicago overcoats, but didn't spot any, nor anything else. Made it back to the lake, Aaron explained you leave the same way you show up, albeit a little quicker. We "got" back, I wanted to get back home fast, but the big guy asked for a ride, and I know I wouldn't wanna get stuck walkin' home after somethin' like that, so I gave him a lift, headed home, and spent a good five hours starin' at the ceiling, jumpin' at every sound.
... interesting night.
* postin' the school layout, (not sure why I still do this...)
Polished white stone, Two storey’s tall, five sections.
West wing = English, creative arts.
2nd floor= library, all of it.
North wing= science and math wing (chemistry, geography, geology etc.)
East wing = Gymnasium, one storey, well cared for, wooden folding bleachers. Track and field center. Weight room.
North of Gym = cafeteria on first floor, theater on second.
(Building is vaguely a square, with a courtyard in center.)
** Note: the teach seems a bit OCD, make sure that whatever ya turn in is neat, or he might go crazy or some shit.
*** Note: the car was in the same shape it was when I drove it up, why didn't it change like everything else?
